Ilshawe is mentioned in John Whately [sic], vicar of Crowle, Worcestershire,1565 will, as is his son, Henry Ilshawe. Chitty states he may have been the Henley priest mentioned in 1531, who later took advantage of the 1547 abolition of clerical celibacy to marry. I was taken on a weekend to Balcardine and was introduced to Campbell Godley. I remember training around OOban, as Campbell arranged for a ceilidh band to play at the castle that night. We went into a butcher's as well as other shops. I was put into "The Gold Room", which had a four-poster and sheets that looked as old as the bed. When I learned that this had been the castle where the Glencoe Massacre had been planned I remember lying in the bed thinking "Ah well; you didn't get us all." (I am a MacDonald on my granny's side). I slept poorly, as I heard all sorts of strange noises during the night. When I reported this the next morning, Campbell blamed his large dog as getting into one of the secret passages that he said were all through the castle. He was an amazing character and I have never forgotten him.
Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17566316490043952548noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3350432428721365043.post-61522830401459347442019-09-10T09:00:01.784-07:002019-09-10T09:00:01.784-07:00It should be noted that the skull was that of a fe...It should be noted that the skull was that of a female aged 70, before attempting to reconstruct it.
However you might want to look at my blog site, which shows that the skull is probably that of Shakespeare's wife Anne, who WAS aged 67 when she died and shows that William's grave is actually against the wall in the church, where Anne's stone is.
https://therealchart.blogspot.com/2016/04/shakespeares-skull-or-anne-hathaways.html Graham Appleyardhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17287069564642596833noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3350432428721365043.post-45357888879893989982019-05-26T04:23:37.601-07:002019-05-26T04:23:37.601-07:00I am Alecia, from what I can read. I did wonder - and tried to find out - if Rev Richard Clarke really had said "Now we know that the story is rubbish ..." So it seems somebody felt entitled to "paraphrase" his actual words for the press release issued to the BBC. I'd love to know who that was.

Incidentally, I have been doing a great deal more research into Langston and his story over recent months. To say that "the original story has clearly been discredited" is, I would argue, jumping the gun somewhat. In fact, the more I discover, the more I find that Langston was writing about real people with whom he, or his family, was connected.

All very strange.

With best wishes,

SimonAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07579992524124124425noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3350432428721365043.post-78151506101738502152016-04-11T07:27:29.194-07:002016-04-11T07:27:29.194-07:00The Redditch Advertiser article can be found at:

After 2 centuries of 'Chinese Whispers' about the bones of Shakespeare's family, it would be understandable if there was confusion about whose bones they actually were. As you may know, I wasn't invited to attend or give evidence at the Beoley Court Hearing, and it was only much later (when the story was leaked to the press last November) that I discovered how much damage had been done to our case by the appearance of Messers Wells and Edmondson at the court. Incidentally, it's a curious coincidence that the press was informed of the failure to secure permission to remove the skull for analysis at the very time that I was being written out of the documentary, and I suspect it was done to "plant" the idea that the whole skull story is nonsense - even though they had no way of proving that at that stage - in readiness for the documentary.

VERY interesting to read what you say about the filming at Beoley. From Dr Helen Castor's behaviour and responses to Dr Caroline Wilkinson, I felt I detected an instinctive resistance to any suggestion that the skull might actually be Shakespeare's. Your information goes some way to confirming my suspicions there.

I'm very grateful to you for attempting to draw the presenter's attention to my book and the graphic illustrations showing the points of similarity between the skull and the Shakespeare portraits (I've found one or two more correspondences since the book was published). I can only guess that my evidence, if we can call it that, was too challenging or threatening to the narrative they were determined to follow in their programme.

I'm not sure yet when I shall be over Beoley way again - my wife and I do try to get to events at St Leonard's whenever we can. It would be very good to meet up, if the opportunity presents itself, as some sort of plan for a way forwards would be a good thing to work on.

I hope you are well, and again, many thanks for your supportive words and informative comments.

SimonAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07579992524124124425noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3350432428721365043.post-69431934348949031452016-03-31T03:27:48.495-07:002016-03-31T03:27:48.495-07:00Thank you very much, Paul - that's very intere...Thank you very much, Paul - that's very interesting. I did wonder whether they had managed to scan the entire skull, given the constraints of the space and the Chancellor's ruling that they were not to touch or disturb the skull in any way. The remarks you overheard the scanner saying are rather telling. Also, as I recall, it was the left side of the forehead as you look at it(i.e. the skull's right side) that was pointed to by Dr Wilkinson when she made her pronouncement about the probable/possible gender of the skull. Given what you've told us, it sounds as if that was the side of the skull that was most difficult to scan.

The plot thickens ... !
